I think you just described most of the reason I like it. Plain text sites tend to scale text, allow pinch to zoom, and are just generally faster.

I feel like the obvious answer this topic is circling is that the left expresses more empathy to those outside their immediate circles (caring for the planet), while the right focuses their empathy inwardly (family values.)

It's very true. As a merchant acquirer, everything is BigDecimal, only the auth path needs real performance, and FX occurs at a fixed rate per-day which is easy to reconcile.
