The benefit would be that Ruby could become another fossilized coprolite of a language, similar to COBOL, SNOBOL, FORTRAN, and RATFOR. It would still suck as much as it does today, but it would be carefully defined to suck, and implementors would create dozens of semi-compatible implementations to muddy the waters. As a bonus, I believe it would receive an all-caps name, preferrably ending in "BOL" like all the other shit-tastic programming languages of the past, and be ruled by a giant committee of malicious but ineffectual flunkies.
