Given all this recent love for static site generators, it's kind of amazing/sad that MovableType lost out to Wordpress - MT was a static site generator all along, and very sophisticated.
I created the life-goal sharing site bucketlist.org in Django about six years ago. Super fun side project. Maintained it myself for a couple of years, then sold it to some passionate investors who have done a good job keeping it alive and thriving.
I've also created several university web sites and intranets, worked for years on a journalism project/publication, and am currently working on a massive Django-driven portal for an arts college in California.
I'm curious why you say "Rails is much more modular than Django" when Rails includes more out of the box, and is more opinionated than Django. In fact, I would say that the opposite is true. Django is completely appropriate for tiny web projects, not just large ones. And how is Flask becoming "more popular" than Django? By what metric?
virtualenv+pip are absolutely the standard, and ansible is popular enough to be nearly standard. You didn't state why you're looking elsewhere. Is there any particular reason you want to use something else?
No one has a crystal ball, but one thing I can say for certain is that I've been wondering this for years, but the number of recruiters hitting on me with Django job offers is greater than ever - I get several offers per week. There seems to be a bottomless appetite, and I see lots of startups adopting Django in some part of the stack.
