Yup and philly trucks seem to have more choices then nyc too overall, especially around some of the colleges.
Temple has a few really good crepe trucks and drexel/upenn has some good tacos. Most of the good ones always seem to have a line. I'm sure theres plenty more that I havnt seen, don't spend that much time in the city any more.
Harper Lee is a very private person, almost never gives interviews and hasn't written any other books, so yeah very understandable reaction.
I really love to kill a mockingbird, still remember being assigned to read it in 7th grade. The teacher actually started by reading the first part of the book to us in class and i was hooked, went home and actually read ahead(quite a big deal for a bored 7th grader that barely did enough to get by when he had his IRC friends waiting). I think thats a huge reason for me being an avid reader today.

The pixel seems like a total waste from a hardware standpoint, everything he mentioned would work just as well one of those $250 samsung chromebooks. He also had to fight with the os to get anything useful done. Again i can see myself spending a few hundred bucks for a laptop to carry with me and not worry about to get some basic tasks done, but why would anyone want a pixel?
Is that really true? They have python "apps" for the ipad, but that's not what i mean. I like tinkering, always have my parents tell stories about how when i was a child I'd take things apart instead of playing with toys. IMO that type of curiosity is what makes a "hacker". Regarding apple products part of the fun is jailbreaking the device and figuring out how it works, trying to break the security etc. this will teach you A LOT. Yes you can tinker with android devices but with something closed like the ipad I get a drive to figure out how it works and break it. Apple might not like it much when their devices are jailbroken/the cydia store but you don't see them suing people like geohot as sony does.
The OP does have details to back it up, just not hard numbers. He states how new employees had problems getting setup, old employees dealing with misc problems, things not running smoothly in general. Yes most companies consist of more than IT but these days the problem is many organizations seem to look at IT as an extra expense they can skimp on or even completely do without("The bosses son is really good with computer's he can fix any problems that arise!"). Theres two sides to every story and maybe this department was bloated and could've used some restructuring we don't know that part for sure but we do know that things went from everyone being able to work efficiently to all sorts of random issues, suffered by general employees not IT that should've been avoided.

The guy might be a bit biased but it's completely clear from his article that even though he might not have exact numbers the company was much better off(not only in terms of total profit) with the old IT department.
Wow that's an amazing view. First of all she didnt say anything it was a god damn look, she couldve had a stomach cramp and made a face for all the person on the phone knows. The article also states that this was during a difficult pose the instructor was demonstrating, what about the "happyness" of the other employees in the class? Don't you think distracting them by talking on the phone ruins their experience and makes all those other people less happy, just to make 1 more happy? This type of rule seems in place for business purposes(business related calls comming in that can't wait) not for what might or might not make a person happy. If this employee has such ego problems that shes rude enough to answer the phone, not step out of the class and distract everyone else then complain about the a god damn look she got from the teacher, the only word i can think of using for her is "bitch" and i wouldn't want some one like that at my company.

Vizio sells their products in walmart for good prices and relies on word of mouth. How many average walmart shoppers even know what linux is? It might get them some free press but it's probably not the press they need. Personally I'd love to be able to get the thing $100 cheaper without the windows license, but what about the time they have to spend testing and developing drivers/etc will that even out the cost? What about the extra support they'll have to provide for Joe Walmartshopper trying to install word on his brand new machine he just dropped $800 on? What kind of press will it generate when they tell him, that no he can't use outlook?
As much as I'd love to see linux on these things it's not a good business decision. Company's like dell massive resources with a huge product like so they can have a linux offering, but for a company like this it just doesn't make sense.
yeah it's a pretty amazing hack. I believe the guy who wrote it is a university student from russia(who also found other holes in chrome) so for him the $60k will go quite a bit further then for some one else and the prestige/job offers associated with it will go even further then that.
When the event was going on, another group called vupen(french company that deals in selling 0day exploits to govts) that found a hole in chrome during that contest refused to give up their method, when offered $120k instead of $60 and their ceo half jokingly said he might give it up for the entire million dollars worth of prizes google was offering
Yes but some one can break into whatever server is hosting the source and add a backdoor withought anyone noticing for quite a while, do you go through all the code you compile? Can't think of any specific examples right now but i remember this happening a few times
Sorry but i didnt feel like going into the specifics of windows memory management when i and others gave you the resources to learn more, so i listed one common case that everyone can appreciate. As per your original post I find that completely dubious saying windows never crashes after you disabled your paging file. Windows generally bsod's because of 3rd party driver's(70% of the time, and yes that's a real statistic). So i find it very hard to believe that it never crashes let alone what your lack of page file has to do with anything. Maybe it was blue screening and you where too busy making winamp crash hundreds of times and posting snarky comments on HN to notice?

There are many reasons to have a paging file even if you have plenty of ram. If you get a bluescreen it has to use the paging file for the memory dump if you want one, etc.
