The assumption that Groupons are redeemed at off hours is false: customers use Groupons whenever they want--usually at peak times, just like most people would prefer to. The opportunity cost to a business in these situations is enormous.
The point of the thread appears to be curiosity about a phenomenon of secrecy in an otherwise gossipy tech community. Whether it's Apple or a hot startup, the topic is relevant. Why would you ask a yes/no question and then flag based on a presumed answer?
