Yes, I remember reading that at some point, but what I found interesting is that they seem to be trademarking not the glyph, but the codepoint, so these fonts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_Use_Areas#U.2BF8FF_usag... are breaking the law. Or rather, anything with the character in it, like Codhisattva's comment.

I don't get why this is so newsworthy and "innovative". Matias makes a good line of keyboards[0] (even a mechanical one!) based on the same concept, just with 1 wireless and 1 wired connection. Wired is a lot less of a hassle for me anyway, and you don't even have to change the batteries.

If you're on a Mac, TextMate is still going strong and that's what I use. If you are on Windows I would like to know the answer too.

OK. You're probably right. But AP CS was not difficult for anyone. If you did the work, you got an A+. And then the exam was worthless as an indicator of how good you are. Even my friend who tried to copy and paste off Yahoo Answers got a 5 (the highest you can get). You can look at the course description[0]—it's easier than Programming 101 (of course not even close to the MIT version). It's all in java and you don't have to know what a pointer is.

Definitely agree with you on that one. I am learning swift right now and it has come really far from objective-C.

Now that is an interesting perspective.

That's a really unfair comparison. Those are jobs you get for minimum wage. You can't major in box-packing in college, but you can major in software engineering.

As I said before, maybe you're right. My fear is that really, my skills are not unique or specialized. They are just “Oh, I know some C, and some Objective-C, and some Python, and some JavaScript, and some Java, and some shell scripting, and barely any C++”. I feel like nothing stands out from that. With the exception of Objective-C (I'm including the native frameworks here), those are all languages that every programmer should know (C) or would be able to pick up fairly quickly (Java).

What triangle character are you using there in your prompt? Sorry, but I haven't found a way to make it 'stick' to the background before it using any font (at least at 14pt).

Edit: OK, I found the character/theme you are using, but what version of Ubuntu Mono do you have? It won't handle that for me :/

Edit 2: I found a Powerline patched version, but that doesn't seem to work either… Maybe I will just switch back to Consolas

Regarding #3:

I think that's because you need to see more. The less information on the landing page, the more you're going to want to click to the "about" page. I don't think it really increases the chances that a user will fill out the form to Try Now or actually buy anything.

I really hope this is too expensive for consumer electronics. If they want they could have a tiny (necessary) part that needs to be replaced every couple years because it decides to break, and then charge a fortune to replace it.

I guess not on iOS, but on Android you have to go through a few more steps to "chat" -- home > messenger app > search contacts > chat, versus just tapping a button. That is 2 more screens worth of ads to go through.

This is just an opportunity for Facebook to show twice as many ads as usual.

It's sad, but I really do feel bad for the people who use Facebook nowadays. When I have to look at the job market again, I'm really not looking forward to having to (a) sign up in the first place, (b) have that stupid like button following me around everywhere again and (c) have to become "friends" with people that I really don't want to see anymore.

And then they bought Oculus VR. Seriously?

For the Mighty Mouse you just need to kind of turn it upside down and roll it on a piece of paper to clean it out. But I guess you're right, the only time I really use a mouse for an extended period of time is when browsing the internet or in one of the crappy IntelliJ things which don't seem to even allow you to close a tab with the keyboard. Apple mice are bad, but I guess I meant that my experience hasn't been significantly worse with them than with other mice. But maybe I'm just an apple fanboy :(
