I don't pay for Gmail and its faster. I had free tier of AWS and it was faster. I have i7 PC with 16 GB RAM, 4 MB Cache. That is a general configuration most developers have I suppose.
To blame Microsoft as a company wouldn't be fair I suppose. I hold the Project Managers responsible.
I had a issue where the Azure would just tell me I had no subscription, even though I had one. It asked to selection option if my email was Microsoft account or a company account. My email was [email protected]. So obviously I selected Company account. Later found out I had to select Microsoft account. Not sure why anyone has to select what type of account. Why can't the system determine itself what account it is. It is this kind of stupid stuffs that makes Microsoft look bad.
I had the same thought but after closely working and observing what they do on day to day basis, here I have come up with few reasons:
1. They understand the day to day Operations of the company better.
2. Non-IT people find it easier to deal with them.
3. They're easy going, less demanding in terms of the Company culture and technologies used.
4. They tend to stay for long time in the company - that means Loyalty. Most companies appreciate and reward Loyalty.
5. They aren't Incompetent. They are just good at what they do, for long time, which new comers might dispute as being lazy, not passionate about technology.
Lastly, most of the jobs don't require you to be genius.
I very much agree with you. I wish I could do something else rather than sitting on my bum all day staring at these two screens. But I can't, got bills to pay.

Anyways, it makes no sense to stay in a job where you can't learn and improve your value. It's not about sucess, its about your value.
