My Tesla drove me to the supermarket today. I pushed a button and it took me there and parked in a good spot. It drove me to another state this summer. It works and works very well. Not sure if you’re up to date here because the full self driving is incredible. Nobody is even close to touching Tesla here, they’re 5 years ahead of any other car maker in this respect.
Its insane that it has to be this complex and require third party software to accomplish…
Most modern rdbms/nosql database vendors allow a rolling upgrade where you roll in new servers and roll out the old ones seamlessly.
Also the fact that AWS rds doesnt do this with zero downtime by default through automating it this way is also crazy. Why pay for hosted when the upgrade story is incomplete? Take downtime to upgrade a DB in 2021? Everyone must be joking.
iTerm used to have a lot of really compelling stuff that was missing from the official terminal like tabs, etc... that made straying away from the canonical terminal app worth it but most of them eventually made their way to Terminal.app so nowadays it’s mostly just fluff.
Fogleman has some really cool side projects in a variety of areas written in a variety of languages... and I noticed he’s got two kids! As a new father, how is this possible? Really boring/easy day job?
Having a daughter is an amazing experience that is rewarding in its own right but something that really scares me about fatherhood is not being able to do any deep work for the rest of my life.
Doing deep work is another part of living I really enjoy and I’m somewhat petrified that I’ll never experience it again. Maybe it doesn’t matter.
Thanks for sharing. I'm curious if you already knew the tech stuff before/while committing the crimes or did you learn all that after going through the system?
