The reason for presence of fanboys in IOTA's case seems almost entirely a reaction to deliberate misinformation being spread about IOTA.
In 24 hours, the price of IOTA tanked from a high of $5.50 to a low of around $3, beginning just after a vitriolic tweet brought up an old security vulnerability in the Tangle network that was discovered by an MIT lab. Of course, the tweet conveniently failed to mention that the vulnerability had since been removed and confirmed as such by the same lab.
It's even worse when you realise a lot of them are kids, playing with manipulation tactics for quick "pump and dumps" on discord channels etc. Crypto in general is a madhouse.
This invention is supposedly possible through the use of something called a 'directed-acyclic-graph'
Before I bought a single IOTA, I read this whitepaper and it's pretty indecipherable. I'm a pretty technical person myself, but this paper was not written in a way that anyone can easily understand.

Such crap, endemic to tech blogging, with the end goal being more twitter followers. This is particularly insidious as the author has the arrogance to present the content as 'poetic' (philosophical?) too. I'm surprised some restraint (accidental?) was shown in referring to the practice as 'craft' and not 'art'.

Well, the story might well be completely made up, but the chances are higher that it was made up about Sony not Apple. Probably around the time of when the first Walkman was released.
Let's not forget that early Apple was modelled after Sony of the time. Also, under the context of Japanese culture the kind of attitude displayed by the 'boss' in the story is less striking or unusual.
It could be, but I've heard this same story told about a Sony exec. instead of Steve, and that was before iPod's time. It was a camera that he dropped into a body of water though. The rest is same.
What are some reasons for OpenBSD not being a more popular OS on web servers? I always wondered about this, as on paper OpenBSD (and FreeBSD) seem like they have the edge but most server admins end up running linux. Another case of linux being slightly easier to use and doing the job well enough?
