The best way to learn graphic design (and web design/development and even programmer) is to just get started and do it practically. You learn as you go, making mistakes along the way.
I understand that many of you prefer to get a nice structure for your education, but its not really practical.
If you know XHTML/CSS well you can start freelancing. I could help you out, as I am a web designer/developer myself and am looking for others to partner with.
I wonder why there arent a lot more comments on this thread. I would have thought that a lot of startups would be looking for more affordable designer and coders who work remotely on a per project basis.

Anyone thinks its a good idea to launch a site, where people can contribute domain names. And the community can develop some cool sites, sort-of like open source web development.
