Really great stuff. Thank you and your team for your time and efforts on this. I learned a lot already from the ML class and can't wait to take the HCI class.
This is really cool. Love the fact that they are trusting PG and team's filtering process and guidance to build great startups. This is super sweet for the founders as well since they will provide some awesome advice and guidance.
Congrats to the team who built such an addicting product to users. Here's hoping that you won't get comfortable with that money now and keep innovating! :)
I say yes only if you're staying for more than one day in SF, and you have other networking activities to do. That way, his time isn't wasted if he does come.
That's a pretty tough question to answer. I agree with some of the comments below (well the ones I read) that anything you say about your manager that's sour will look poorly on you. My opinion would be to express that you loved the company and former head dev manager. Don't leave a sour taste in their mouth and be the "bigger" person about this. If you are truly an awesome dev, you will find great work and they'll respect you more than your previous company. Good luck to you.
Thanks again for all the feedback. I've been trying various tools and i've honestly been loving flairbuilder. Quick, simple to use, and it's highly interactive that's just built in. Haven't tried balsmiq yet but will give it a shot.
I love how stanford is doing this for the public -- especially empowering those who really can't afford a degree but really want to enrich their education desires. +1 to Stanford for pushing this and the instructors and TAs who will be dedicating their time to make this happen.
On a side note, I'm deciding to take this class or the ML one. In my line of work, I do believe that the ML class will be more beneficial but the AI one seems way more interesting.
I wonder with all the recent acquisitions if this is enough for EA to stay competitive in the game space since it seems that social gaming is becoming the de-facto gaming choice for most users.
I think it depends on what he wants to do with the money? He already mentioned that money isn't going to change his life style (but we'll see if that's really the case) but having only 25k in the savings with a family? That's just being a bit reckless. I do agree with the points of a few commenters here that he should just take a 1M or 2 off the table so he can focus on the company and not worry about his personal financial circumstances. Also, you never know in this world when a medical emergency happens and he needs to use this money. Having the money gives him breathing room and overall the benefits of just having options in life.
If nothing else, he can reinvest that money to other startups as an angel.
It's sad to see that we are retiring the US Shuttle program. In a recent article in the Economist about how the space race is now dead, the US is now are reliant on other countries to send folks up into space or the ISS ... even though they are planning on retiring the ISS in 2020.
I'm hoping that the privatization of the space programs (like SpaceX or Virgin Galatic) gets enough interest to fuel more funding and research into space travel though only a handful of rich folks could ever pay for a ride in one of those programs ...
