The Pile is still used to train LLMs and it's still very much available on the net. I agree it's a risk to train your models on the dataset until the legal implications are worked out, but it doesn't seem to be stopping people.
I'm glad you said something because I felt like I was going crazy reading some of these replies. People sometimes seem to forget the phrase "Remember the human" when they interact with maintainers. It's a really frustrating situation to watch because one of the main reasons I make software is as a creative outlet. So, I can see where Nikolay is coming from being frustrated and upset. Sometimes people want to just go around kicking over other peoples sand castles.
It's not just the UI though. Resources have been exhausted, or that's the error I'm getting, in a lot of regions for both my work and personal accounts (GKE and GCE). Someone on the GCP slack also said they were getting similar issues from Dataflow so it seems to be widespread across products.
It's actually not just GKE, there have been issues creating normal VMs since late Friday night. It seems anything that required creating VMs gave back resource exhaustion errors. I finally got a cluster for us-east1 setup last night so it looks like the resource issues are clearing up though.
Yeah almost all regions and zones for any compute instance have been exhausted since about 1pm PST on Friday. I finally got one up last night on us-east1, but my older cluster is basically SOL until it's fixed on us-west1. It went down for an upgrade and never came back up because of the same resource issue.
I agree, the interviews I did with them recently didn't involve pointer/char array questions. Most of the questions were a lot more interesting compared to interviews I had with other companies at the time.
Actually the admins on the site are blocking U.S. users so not to draw attention to themselves like library.nu. I think they had mentioned it on their IRC awhile back.
