Again, like most discussions on HN these days, the arguments seem to be turning towards mistaking general, rule-of-thumb kinda anecdotal advice as gospel truth and then trying to beat it into a provably correct or provably incorrect corner. Why not take it with a grain, or thimbleful (per taste), of salt and then giving it a shot in real life (IRL?)? If you really disagree so strongly then why not write the underlying reason(s) for your view(s)? Perhaps that would make for more interesting reading!
Now before you take it as a rebuttal, let me start by saying the reason why I agree with edw519's response to the OP is borne of a basic human instinct that people a generally good. I like to believe that and would like to continue doing so. However, I have run into a fair share of douches and vampires who have made me want to reverse my viewpoint. Yet again, there have been many selfless acts from strangers, both big and small, to continue warrant giving humanity in general the benefit of doubt.
In the end, I keep paraphrasing Lester Burnham's thoughts: You cannot stay mad at life for too long. Every something happens that makes you hate it, the next moment it will do something that makes you love with it all over again. Damn! I guess I am just another die-hard optimist. :-)
So it's the old short-skirt-leads-to-rape argument again? On one hand, rape is entirely the fault of the rapist. On the other hand, it's still not a good idea to walk alone down a dodgy alley late at night wearing a short skirt or to go back to hugh3's hotel room. Discussing one point shouldn't detract from the other.
It is a bad idea. High probability of pulling down the kernel even if one d-bus enabled application starts spewing crap. May be a bit safer if it was implemented as a module... but overall, not a good idea at all.

My fav anecdote is writing an equation plotting program in high school using BBC Basic, which got corrupted while being written to disk (360KB floppy disk -- no less!) and I had rewrite the entire thing from my memory and a few grubby notes. Interestingly, the program got corrupted again (same floppy?) but it ran better than before -- because instead of drawing the plots on the screen real quick, it drew them in a weird swooping fashion that made the whole thing look so much cooler!!
I may be thinking wrong about all this so please correct me if it is so...
Incanter runs in Clojure which runs on top of Java (JVM) ... So how can it be even usable for the heavy-lifting statistics that R routinely does?
And while we are at it, I get that LISP is cool and all (PG/HN/etc) but what is with running it in the sweltering bowels of the beast that is Java, even with a shiny name like Clojure?

I get that Java now speaks with a lisp thanks to Clojure, but putting LISP in JVM sounds like sticking crisp refreshing mint ice-cream into a pile of steamy elephant poo.
A sad day indeed, at least for me. I inevitably end up running some flavor of linux on almost all my computers sooner or later. ATI's support for linux, compared to nVidia, has been piss-poor to say the least (certainly in my experience).
I have always recommended and bought nVidia cards for this one reason. In fact, we recently went with nVidia's QuadroFX 4800 cards for 5 new workstations (requiring stereo vision on linux/macOS). Want to guess the biggest factor why no one on the team even dared think ATI ? ... The (almost always) nightmarish experiences with ATI's low-end 'consumer cards' on their personal linux machines led to a lack of faith in any ATI product.
Please note, as far as linux support goes, I am talking about the "official ATI closed source drivers".
As a corollary to this, I am also curious about vitamin D levels in people using UV tanning beds.
Assuming equal carcinogenic potential from sun exposure and from such beds (which is most likely an incorrect assumption), the results should be insightful.
