Gamma radiation (i.e. ionizing radiation) is just a highly energetic photons. Alpha and Beta particles are not photons, and are not referred to as ionizing radiation.
I think paredit is one of the best arguments for simple sexp style syntax. It allows you to build easily comprehensible tools that manipulate code on syntactic rather than textual level. Its definitely possible to build the same kind of tools for more complex syntaxes, but its harder for users to understand and use those tools.

Doing it in someone else's facility I think is what makes it illegal. IF you had exactly the same scheme but hosted the equipment in your customer's houses, Aero's business model would be perfectly legit. (I think, it's been a while since i read the opinion)
I think contracts signed without some sort of comprehension test having been performed should be considered suspect. This would have the effect of preventing things from being hidden in the small print, and making for much shorter (and probably more standardized) contracts.
As I understand it, server updates run counter to the idea of servers as static, externally configured fixtures ala cloud formation or its competitors. To merge the concepts you'd need to have aws or whoever manage your cloud formation templates and automatically re-deploy whenever they make a change to them for security reasons... I think maybe our tooling isn't quite there yet, but I'm sure its coming. Disclaimer: I don't have a very deep knowledge of cloudformation, so I might be talking out of my ass.

Ohio is historically a major manufacturing center in the US. And Wright Patterson AFB is a major logistal and administration center of the Air Force.
Extreme emegency preparededness is insane, but buying a yacht is not? I don't think there is anything wrong with someones hobby being building and stocking their secret fort in the back yard.
Stories like these make me never want to make a http webservice again. HTTP(S) is just way too complicated for me to ever be confident I've done everything right. It's getting to the point where webservices are like crypto: only experts should touch them.
They are soliciting donations using the project name. I don't think that falls into nominative use. It'd be really weird if I could use the logo of the Salvation Army to solicit donations for my own organization even if I intended to give some of the donated money to them.
I don't think that's just officialese. They are going to be under enormous pressure to find out what went wrong as quickly as possible. Orbital Science's future may be significantly affected by how well (and quickly) they deal with the aftermath.
