That makes no sense. Being an HN member does not grant you magical survival abilities. Also, despite being an awesome place to be, SF is expensive to live in.
I would say have your contacts meet you in Haight-Ashbury, Northbeach or Golden Gate Park. You shouldn't miss out on the actual city while you're here.
