Crazy how obscure episodes of world history land randomly on the front page - how does it even happen?
I grew up in Germany but I don’t think we covered this in history class - maybe I forgot about it, the whole medieval period is mostly a blur for me now
I don’t know, like who even remembers Meian and Ragn0r, who created the original Dota before icefrog took over?
I think icefrog benefited a lot from creating Dota and is widely credited - I mean it landed him a great job at valve after blizzard decided to ignore the great potential in their custom map community. The other devs that worked on it are basically unknown.
I think it’s pretty subjective at that point what is good and what isn’t.
Totally agree on the dark patterns though.
Out of interest what is a game you consider excellent that maybe wasn’t marketed as well?
Personally I really like dungeon keeper 1 (& 2 as well somewhat) - but Bullfrog was very unsuccessful as a company and went under. I don’t know exactly why, should look into that history
No it’s very polished in gameplay and balancing. I haven’t played it myself but I watched some others play it.
Also looks great etc, so it’s obvious to me that it’s high quality
Sure the genre and many of its archetypes were invented in the WC3 fun/custom map scene but LoL is more than a Dota clone.
I haven’t really played it (my moba time ended with HoN) but it’s obviously very well made
Yea but that’s a fad - people are already fed up with the obvious slop. I don’t think it’s something we will see a lot in ~1-2 years.
Marketers will continue to hop on the next big trend just like they always did and all the current slop will become a different flavour slop.
I have always used this method and my managers love me because they know I get important shit done without much supervision or needing dozens of planning meetings.
It doesn’t even feel like there is any leash at all.
Of course the company i work at isn’t extremely disfunctional and a growing startup, so once we move into enterprise territory it might change the culture and it’s more about saving your ass and less about doing actual work.
Every authentication system i ever implemented (and I worked on many) needed some way to invalidate sessions regardless whether it’s self service for the user or not.
And once you do you need some state and then JWTs don’t make much sense anymore.
There are of course many valid use cases for JWT so “JWT bad” is a very reductive take
The question is I guess if you trust pocketbook or Amazon more.
I tend towards the former since that is their main business and not one of 1000 things they do.
My last Pocketbook lasted for 12+ years until something heavy fell on the screen one day.
But I hear that kindles are similarly robust until amzn decides to brick them.
