Exactly, Tiktok can algorithmically identify a few 100k persuadable voters in a few battleground states and feed them the political viewpoint they favor. Thus CCP can influence our elections. Its easy do this in stealth and there is no way to prove from outside that it happened!.
We already have laws that restrict majority foreign ownership of traditional media, why cant we extend it to new media?
Yes, the marginal income taxes were high but the capital gain taxes were low, so the rich didn't pay much. For example when the top income tax was 91% in the 1950s the capital gain tax was just 25%. See the historical top income and capital gain tax rates here https://ctj.org/pdf/regcg.pdf
I agree relative to income, US housing is still one of the cheapest in the world. But abundant land don't explain it as in countries with even more land like Canada, housing is more expensive. Maybe its the substantial carrying cost of real estate in US (high property taxes) which discourages people from using it as pure store of value (like Chinese).
California actually spends less per student on education than even many poor states. For all their virtue signaling about public transport, CA don't even have universal school bus service (which is table-stake in most states). Most parents drive individually and drop kids!
Just compare the building/facilities of any top bay area public school with that of Texas. The former look like shack while the latter look like mini universities. Bay area schools still rank higher because of students and parents, its nothing to do with the state.
Most of the internet ads are direct response. As long as companies get back more than they spend they keep spending. So there is no set "budget". If direct response goes away there is not enough brand budget to buy all the ad impressions so the prices go down a lot.
CPM price for targeted ads is lot more than untargeted ads. So likely the publishers will increase the number of ads per page to maintain the same eCPM yield. Also the ads will optimize for top of the funnel (clicks) than bottom (conversion). So we will start to see aggressive & intrusive ads. (remember the "punch the monkey" ads from the early 2000s?)
True, the property tax rates are higher in TX. But since house prices are much less, in absolute terms you pay less property tax than CA. Combine this with 0% income tax, your tax load is a lot less in TX than CA.
On the other hand, Dallas is the hub of 2 airlines so well connected. With the rent money you save you could afford to take multiple mini vacations a year!
True, subscription is the main revenue source, not ads in this new media environment. So the way to optimize is to find a most passionate tribe and serve their point of view.
This is why NYT is going to stop growing if Trump loses in November. With no need to resist there is no need to subscribe
Check the top companies in Europe, it's mostly the same companies founded 100 years ago or something. The increased regulation in Europe just helped existing big companies, not new ones. Compare this with the US where the list changes every 20 years or so. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonathanponciano/2019/05/15/eur...
