The don't sign comments rule is designed to stop pointless posting of company URLs when there is no need to. In this case it is clearly appropriate for Matthew to disclose who he is as it is important to the context of the post.
Yeah I know what you mean about the bloat added in the 00s that was crap. They did seem to listen a lot to their users though as things got better. It isn't as quick to load as Sublime Text 3 (which is lightening fast!) but it can open big (like several hundred MB or more) files in and instant whereas Sublime Text is a lot slower.
My biggest gripe with UltraEdit is that it basically has zero ways to extend it. It has no plugin system and their macro system is horrible. This is where Sublime Text is really great.
It isn't as pretty as Sublime Text but I am a long time (~15 years I think now) user of UltraEdit. I have never used the Linux or OS X versions just Windows but it is a pretty solid editor with loads of features and very, very fast. Kind of pricy these days though, I bought it a long time ago with a lifetime upgrade license and it has been well worth the money IMHO.
I had a Galaxy S4 for a while last year and never had a problem with the plastic back like others. I cracked an iPhone 4 back with a small drop which really annoyed me. At least with the Samsung phone if I scuff the back I can just a new one or even buy a nicer one to just replace it. The band around the S4 is metal at the screen is pretty tough (Gorilla Glass I believe?).
Never understand all the hate of the Samsung designs. If you don't like plastic just buy a different back. That is one of the benefits of it being removable.
I never understood this arguement. So Nintendo do not pick the most powerful CPU/GPU available. Why does that really matter? It is a lot more powerful than the device before it and it has amazing games on it still.
With a handheld the most important number, to me, is battery life. I still feel that Nintendo (and Sony) could do more by using a more efficient or lower power chip and get a couple more hours out of the device.
Then again I do not care that much for graphics so perhaps my opinion is in the minority. There are several things I would change about the 3DS if I could but upping the processing power is not one of them.
I think it is more that the media have gone crazy in covering the story. There was so much misinformation being published that had no solid evidence behind it. I think it was pretty clear that something awful happened and that plane was lost after crashing into the ocean. All of the stories of it being hijacked and then flown and landed somewhere were all pretty crazy theories. Possible sure but only a very small possibility. It was far more likely to be some kind of failure in the aircraft and/or pilot error similar to the AirFrance crash a few years ago.
The pilot suicide theory is probably the most likely after a failure/error IMHO.
Learning Assembly language has been on my list of "want to do" for a long time now but as I have never had a need for it professionally I kept putting it off. I actually have time for myself now and outside of learning to cook properly and cycle a lot I would really like to finally tick this off my bucket list. The problem is I am not too sure where to actually start. I want something that starts from the bottom and teaches me about the CPU and goes on from there. I know what a register for example but I don't know what a register is if you understand?
So is there a book or web resources that is really a beginners guide to assembly? I understand x86 is not the nicest place to start but I have an x86 CPU in my laptop and not much else so it is a better place to start that anywhere else really. Anyone got any advice?
NB: My background is very high level languages such as JavaScript and Python and not much lower level. A bit of C++ back in the 90s but that knowledge is long gone.
I hated how they worked. The buttons did not have enough travel in them to be comfortable to use in this way plus the way the thumb sits on the buttons it is not a very comfortable way to control pressure like with your fingers on the shoulder triggers. I am glad the Dual Shock 4 got rid of them and just has two decent shoulder triggers.
Sorry to hear about your situation. As somebody who also suffers from depression I cannot tell you how much I think you have to change your work environment. That black dog will do you in if you are not careful and an awful working environment is one of the worst things when it comes to depression in my experience.
Also as noted by a couple of others is Go, Dart, etc. really the best technologies to be learning right now in your area (both technically and geographically). I don't know the NZ tech world at all but if it is anything like London (and most other places) then get a solid knowledge in the main business languages such as Java. Obviously don't just follow my advice blindly but research into companies in your areas and learn learn learn!
Indeed. Zoloft certainly made my sex life more complex! One of the biggest issues is that these medications take quite a while (8+ weeks) before you start to see results and can often take up to 6 months for side effects to go (if they go at all, they did for me thankfully).
Long time depression and PTSD sufferer here. Drugs help but are not the only answer which seems to be how they are seen in New Zealand. Talking about my problems (not just with professionals but also other sufferers) and my history helps more than the medication. I am on Sertraline (Zoloft) and some other meds and it certainly does help me however it is more of a "it makes things not so difficult" than "it makes me better". For example it makes me not get so upset/angry about things that I would do before. I used to go from 0 to 10 in a second, now it is very, very difficult to get me above an 8 in the anger scales. I am much calmer and that makes me happier.
Obviously these medications are still hugely unknown though and everyone does react differently. My personal advice for those suffering with depression (and any other mental health issue) is to get some talking therapy where you can. As I said it doesn't have to be a professional, often just somebody who kind-of-understands is a huge help!
Without the Android app ecosystem via the Play Store it isn't really Android anymore. Same way I don't really see the Kindle Fire series as Android devices either.
I honestly don't get why they are still going ahead with these devices either with the Microsoft deal pretty much done and dusted. Nokia should have got into the Android game (and I mean real Android) a long time ago.
I am 29 and did several years at a large blue chip on 60-80 hour weeks (when the odd month at 100 hours!) and it gave me a break down. Perhaps I am just not as "strong" as others but I much prefer being in control of my own life (social, work, personal). I learned a lot but personally I don't feel it has done me any good in the long run. Interestingly the people who have done "the best" when it comes to promotion/salary are the ones who didn't slave away for 60+ hours a week so I question why others do it.
With the exception of your own business of course.
