This article doesn't do justice to the work Microsoft has done with combatting child pornography in an attempt to paint Bing as some intentionally neglected backwater and Microsoft as some criminally negligent monolith. Microsoft's PhotoDNA is far and away the most widely shared detection tool and is in place with a ridiculous range of organizations. More importantly, Microsoft works closely with LE and makes it easy for their partners to integrate with LE. Google avoids the problem in the article entirely by doing a nudity blacklist for image results, which nicely solves the problem of some reporter doing a hit job, but avoids actually doing anything that makes finding material more difficult.
There are plenty of problems with black-listing based approaches, and I strongly disagree with some of the technical decisions made in PhotoDNA [1], but Microsoft should be credited for their commitment to reporting and prosecuting, and bringing their processes to other companies who otherwise would be unable to dedicate the resources required to be effective.
To sum it up, players should learn something and players should not have their time wasted.
