Finally! Until now after each LineageOS update I had to connect phone to adb, and patch with tingle or needle to re-enable signature spoofing. Great solution, shame the LineageOS devs won't just add this as an flashable zip or configurable option.
I can't use Signal or my local railway app without Google Cloud Messaging.
So I have two choices:
- Don't use them
- Install Google crapware package
- Install microG, which supplies the APIs so other apps can function normally
The only difference I see, is that LineageOS users are safe now (or when next built is compiled). Android users will have to wait for months, if they'll get an update at all.

Same here. My dnsmasq server responds with the domain name when I try it with 'host', but curl and firefox fail on Debian and Ubuntu with only that 1 DNS server in resolv.conf. Curl says "curl: (6) Could not resolve host: mattias-.github.io".
However, curl and firefox seem to be RFC-compliant. RFC952 states: "The last character must not be a minus sign or period."
I only see traffic when typing in the search bar, not when using the location bar as stated in the article. And only when I set my search engine to Google instead of DuckDuckGo.
Both phone-companies have extensive logs of all calls. Using them to troubleshoot problems however always means manually reading every step. Because of this labor intensity and the privacy aspect (do you want every helpdesk-agent to look at the real source of anonymous calls?) I doubt you can convince them to research this, unless it's something that occurs frequently.

Currently in active (crowdfunded) development, but I would recommend www.mailpile.is once it's more stable. Crypto, security, privacy and everything that gmail does.
Most likely your ISP is using a technique like TR-069. This enables them to push settings for voip/TV, and in your friends case wifi. A lot of DSL providers are starting to use this for less intrusive (?) goals like measuring noise and attenuation at the clients end once a day, so they can adjust the speed accordingly.
AVM is a very nice company and you should not accuse them without proof. They actually provide an option to disable TR-069 in the page "Provider Services" ("Allow automatic configuration by the service provider" and "Allow automatic updates"). If you don't have this option you could try installing the original firmware from avm.de.
Maybe you are still able to flash the modem with the original firmware from , and configure it yourself?
