Worthy thread to ask: is there such a thing as a white label IP camera (or similar) with a supported open firmware? Not asking for open source, but something close to plug and play that nonetheless has a way of stripping the rootfs as desired for bespoke use in a manufacturer-supported way.
I have looked around before but I only found genuinely dev-oriented kits that weren't even in a shell, and crazy priced.
I run Chrome kiosk mode with a custom user agent to trigger Jellyfin's TV mode (just insert the string "TV") and a vibed script to convert HDMI CEC into arrow keys. That's how my aging mum gets her TV now. The same setup has a custom YouTube wrapper with preset subscriptions that works the same way (just 2 big icons when you turn on the TV)
I have almost completely stopped writing real in my own output as a direct consequence of this. Maybe next year they'll catch up with my alternative wordings and I'll end up switching back
