“Just to give you an idea of how bad that is, a three-sigma or a one-in-200-year catastrophe would be 10% increase over pre-pandemic,” he said. “So 40% is just unheard of.”
This sounds very strange indeed, I'd like to see the numbers. For instance Euromomo https://www.euromomo.eu collects the statistics about death rates, here is a plot for the Italian death rate and you can see the mortality spikes with the covid waves, but those are quite specific for the elderly https://imgur.com/a/8cUdNcb
It sounds very strange that the death spike is "over" 3 sigma, which should mean over 3 standard deviations, which is really unbelievable, to me this looks like an artefact of some sort
It would be nice to show statistics, isolated cases are rarely really interesting to discuss. I've been in China recently and there are plenty of foreign brands, the most successful ones are those who adapt their message, naming, colours, etc.. to the Chinese taste, which of course should be expected.
for me it was zero knowledge summit 03, finally a conference dedicated only to the cryptography without the blockchain noise (previous summits had blockchain flavour).
We had a startup scraping travel info, it was considered borderline but the legal issues were the last of the problems. It was an arms-race at building better bot versus better defences. It was fun, but it gets boring real quick.
The way it's built must reflect the fact that the countries passed through by the belt are receiving help from China. Which of course is a good thing, but that's the first goal, other considerations are secondary. If a country says no to the help, they will wait until it's a yes.
