i always think that Google and Microsoft are the worst when it comes to projects. They make good concept projects, but their problem is that they don't do full commitment. Much like Google Duo or Google Allo. Their problem was, while it's good to have those apps, they never made commitments into pushing them for consumers to like or even recognize. instead, they kept their hangout when they could either migrate fully, or just migrate the core from the new app.
Microsoft did that with many projects too but their problem was different.
That's why i believe the last good time google did something good was from when they announced their very first pixel.
At least Microsoft is doing great job currently with their open source approach.
I do believe that right after the event of the first google pixel, all google products were “failure” by their standards. they haven’t created anything big ever since. Same goes to Microsoft and their latest product kills.
At least their new products are getting better now.
Google never created anything significant. That’s why I wouldn’t trust their new products.
They really need to stop publishing products that feels like beta.
Their plans always seem like:
Beta-final release > take long time to finalize it > kill stage
Audiophile perspective:
Even though i like the idea of ANC , it can fail in so many places. If you want something that can block noises, i would consider going for noise isolation instead.
Shure earbuds offer great isolation. But they tend to have flatter bass. Shure SE535 is a great balanced one but expensive a little.
Sony’s ANC is your bet if you are looking for ANC headphones. Any of their line has a good implementation.
For overly expensive ANC, you can try the AKG noise cancellation headphones. They are extremely expensive to the point i don’t recommend them
That’s one of the questions i always wanted to ask the top people such as Bill Gates or someone like Dennis Ritchie.
Being the top isn’t something easy, but i feel like people overestimate it quite a lot, to the point that they quit thinking they want to be the best. I can say , the world is much smaller than the concept we draw on our minds. So many stuff that i looked into, especially in the programming world, is simpler than what’s in my mind. The reason why we always think that it’s big and hard thing to achieve is due to how we were taught in schools. We get taught about stuff that on the next grade they say it’s more than we think. Take negative numbers for example, we start knowing that numbers are only positive and nothing such as 2-5 is possible, then we get taught that that idea is wrong.
Anyway, we tend to overestimate because of how we used to encounter. If we dedicate ourselves to something, it will pay off. If there is someone that’s world class on something, you shouldn’t focus on becoming him, but focus into further things. We are all alike at the end, it’s our enthusiasm that drive us into pursuing our goals. The only difference between you and the other top 1 is that he had more interest.
Basically to put it in simpler words, don’t think that there is a huge gap between you and your understanding of the world and your goal. It’s much less than you think
I used to be a big fan of Fleksy app before the creators went to pinterest and sold their app to some company.
They new devs probably didn’t know how to fix their previous bugs or work on the code itself. So they started adding new “features” , which was a toolbar for a keyboard app. Kept contacting them on fixing their error, but they just said we know it’s there. Until i switched back to Gboard.
I would say, it’s probably because they added something to that toolbar.
It’s always like that for most apps, especially keyboard apps. A company abandon their app, then another company buy it from them and not know how to deal with the app. The app ends up with bloatware that no one asked for and then the app gets abandoned
It’s not an easy task, especially since the OS competition has sailed long time ago. You either create a linux distro with your flavor, or start over.
Starting from 0 is a very hard task and requires a lot of development time and money.
Also, even if we say you get to a level near the stability and support of the current systems (which is near impossible considering the head start), you need to bring people to it.
Just like how Mozilla phone OS failed and Microsoft Windows Phone and many others. No one would go for a system that doesn’t offer their applications or applications available on other systems.
Of course you will be able to get users interested in niche systems, but these are very few.
For example, i am running clear linux, which is “independent” distro. It’s an amazing system for me, but i would never recommend it for anyone due to the advanced setup
Unless of course.. you create a system that’s a breakthrough. A system that would make a 20yr old dead machine 1000x faster than new machines.
I guess the less harsh word that I wanted to say is reliable.
DDG has it’s own community. It’s growing, but I don’t think it will catch up with google. There are other factors too.
As for authenticity. I think people interpret DDG as unwanted, unfortunately. Because it was frequently set as home page as a bundle. If you search its name, you will find people frequently asking “is it a virus”.
It’s hard to advertise an engine these days without being viewed as a forced advertising. But there are better tactics like offering incentives.
I don’t think it’s easy to make such successor.
However, I think the best approach into making a better search engine is to start with meta search engine, and collect analytical results of users decisions. At the same time, that search engine needs to develop its own.
If you stay with meta engine, not many is going to find it authentic, and it would be a cluster.
However when you start as meta engine then you implement your own engine using it, that’s when users will be comfortable in using
