Most US airlines don't offer lounge access for domestic first class tickets, but they generally do for international business/first. And sometimes for "premium" transcontinental routes (like JFK-SFO).
Then again, the food in US airline lounges leaves a lot to be desired. The free meal would probably just be cheese and crackers and carrot sticks...
That may be true, but for a Canadian a big advantage of taking software engineering is that it makes it much easier to work in the US later. An engineering degree lets you easily qualify for the "engineer" category of the TN visa, but with a CS degree it's considerably harder.
Many stores let you enter your phone number on a keypad if you've forgotten your loyalty card at home. If you don't feel like signing up for a store's card to get a discount, just try entering 867-5309 (from the Jenny song) in your local area code. 99% of the time it works!
It was before I became a Canadian citizen, but yeah, it would have been on the Visa Waiver Program. So technically they think I overstayed my visa waiver.
I'm a Canadian citizen and get this type of treatment all the time. Every time I enter the US, which is about once a month or so, they send me to a back room for secondary screening. The reason? Their system thinks I overstayed my visa once back in 1995. What actually happened was my family took a road trip to New England, and nobody bothered to check our passports on the way out, so there was no departure record.
So for the last 18 years, they've sent me back for questioning every single time, wasting countless hours of both my time and their time. They always ask me if I worked illegally in the States in 1995 and I just tell them, "No, I was nine years old." When I ask them if they can remove the flag on my account, they say it's impossible because only the government department that created the flag can remove it, and that department no longer exists.
The fees are atrocious, but during promotions they sometimes sell tickets with taxes and fees included. I once bought a roundtrip Oslo-Edinburgh and the total charge was £1.98. The airport bus ended up being 20 times more expensive than the actual flight.
