Ok I get it. Just looked here. http://ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html looks liek people have been down voting my stuff. Fair enough.
Ok so now I know how the karma got knocked down... but I'm not exactly sure that comment deserves -16 is there a policy against swearing or something?
Swearing is generally tolerated if it's not excessive. No need to censor yourself by obscuring the letters though.
I don't think the comments deserved -8 each (-8 is the most something can be down modded), but the downvoters (rightfully, in my opinion) thought those comments didn't add much to the discussion.

I agree. A lot of folks come to HN expecting it to be like digg/reddit/et al and comment as such only to be downvoted. It's just a different culture, I think. As the saying goes, "Lurk moar" until you figure it out.
