Sounds like there is another problem with who Obama appointed. Sad really.
I don't think it's that. There are plenty of reasons to raid an office that have nothing to do with the office owner (for example, if you are after one of the employees)
More to the point, the Obama administration could have the worst vetting team in the world and they'd still be smart enough to ask the FBI if they had any active investigations on the appointee. It's too rudimentary a step to skip.
Which means this is either (a) not about Mr. Kundra (the nominee) or (b) is something so benign as to not have concerned the vetting team.

Or they were so busy triple-checking on tax issues that they forgot to ask the FBI :-)
Did you really intend to suggest that you think that the vetting team would have squashed the raid if they thought that Mr. Kundra actually was involved in something serious, that is, that you think that the vetting team would do a coverup for a nominee?

I think the people downvoting you don't understand your point. If the vetting team told Kundra that they didn't think he was fit to be CTO, that might tip Kundra off to an ongoing investigation.
The whole thing is a moot point now, because Kundra wasn't the guy they were investigating.

I'm pretty sure a basic vetting is done of the entire "short list" of candidates so the President doesn't waste time considering someone who can't be nominated.
