Ask HN: What Happened to Skitch?

I still have my copy of Skitch installed, and agree, it is and was the best solution for so many use cases.
However, given the fact that it has been abandonware for a long time now, I did look for alternatives for that fateful day when Apple fucks up macOS sufficiently where Skitch is no longer executable, which is not a question of if, but a matter of when.
I decided that CleanShot X was the closest thing to a suitable alternative to Skitch, although it has a number of really annoying design decisions that keep it from being a suitable replacement for Skitch, unfortunately.
If someone could convince the owners of the Skitch IP to open source it, I would be very interested in helping maintain it.

Skitch was brought by Evernote damn near 10 years ago.
Bending Spoons brought Evernote a few years ago and gutted the entire US based staff.
I’d consider Skitch to be absolutely and permanently dead.

That's a shame. I wonder if Bending Spoons would consider open sourcing it.
Given how they’ve treated Evernote, I’d highly doubt it.
They seem to operate on the model of purchase, fire and profit. Recently each acquisition seems to have followed the same pattern where they buy a company, raise prices, and fire existing staff.
They did it with FiLMiC in September 2022, Evernote 3 months later, and most recently a mobile app developer called Mosaic.
It remains to be seen what happens to Meetup, whom they also purchased in January.
Given that Evernote killed Skitch 10 years ago, it’s highly likely that the source code is stuck on a backup never to be seen again.

It was one of my favourite macOS apps. Extremely simple, takes no time to learn, doesn't try to solve every conceivable problem (just sticks to core capabilities).

I wonder if the acquirer could be convinced to open source it? What alternatives are people using?
