Sign-in/sign-up required, with no teaser video above the fold might dissuade some folks? Maybe surface SSO sign-in to the top to reduce friction a fraction? (These were my initial feelings, having never before seen this site.)
I signed in with Google, clicked on today's target, and already there's mention of "plus membership". Perhaps figure out if I'm enjoying myself first, before mentioning this?
Anyway, I got through to today's challenge [0], and immediately realised I only know the bare minimum about CSS (I usually cheat with SASS and other people's templates). :-D
I gave it a shot, and surprised myself. 605.18 and 100% match (with global average 587.07), so I was quite pleased.
Perhaps there's a niche here for a gamified CSS-leetcode kind of thing.

Besides being a tremendously fun challenge, the active community on Discord is another reason to give it a go. Daily discussions on the most recent target and the chance to learn a few more tricks makes it a must visit every day.
Although the HTML/CSS field is just a hobby to me, CSSBattle was, and still is, an odd yet entertaining way for me to understand the most common properties used, especially in web design. A community that welcomes all kinds of developers, from professionals with years in the background, to newcomers that want to give themselves some entertainment while building knowledge upon HTML/CSS. CSSBattle is a game that encapsulates some of the most mindblowing ways of recreating visual targets, even with basic properties that you wouldn't think they have so much power.
My name is Kushagra, and I am the co-founder of CSSBattle[1]. We built CSSBattle to make web designing a bit more fun. CSSBattle is an online competitive game where you have to replicate a given target image with CSS. When you submit your CSS code, you get a score based on how well you replicated the image + how short your code is. Our community has now grown to 320k+ players across the world.
Over the past 3 years, we've been working hard to make it even more fun and educative for our players. I am very excited to show you a completely revamped version of CSSBattle with great new features which makes it the best frontend gaming platform on the web. Here's what's new:
- Daily Targets: after talking to our users, we realized that not all players liked the pressure of leaderboards and competition. So we've introduced Daily Targets where players get a new target every day. These targets don't have leaderboards and are great for beginners who are just getting started
- CSS Courses: We've also introduced game-like interactive courses for learning CSS
- Monthly Battles: We now host monthly battles for players who crave competition. These are heated battles where players spend hours on shaving off a single character from their code just to rise up on the leaderboards!
- Redesign: We've revamped the whole site to make it look nicer, and the whole experience smoother. We've also optimized it to work on mobile devices
