I wouldn’t be surprised if some business tried to monetize with a proprietary version for sale at your local department store, but then the problem would be distribution and finding the right stock levels for the market.

Cool! I was hoping someone would make a better catalog for these. Searching thangs for specific things got really murky.
I made a ton of the 2 grid 3 bay windowed bins to hold M3 and M4 screws and nuts and small but numerous lego pieces.

I never really understood the interest for making 3D printed containers. I browsed through the repo and it's legitimately cool stuff but the costs of filaments will definitely make this much more expensive than just going to the dollar store/Ikea to buy organizers that will be similar but (probably) sturdier and easier to clean than printed parts.
Filament costs arent that large if you uze regular PLA or recycle your own PET from plastic bottles.
$20 dollars of PLA is enough to print two gridfinity base units (5x4 and 4x3 weighted) and fill up most of the units with printed modules.
The advantages of printing your own are customization: IKEA and the dollar store don’t sell containers that form fit much of anything, let alone allow you to store a precision caliper in the upright position, for example.

As someone into gridfinity the selling point for me is less of the general purpose storage , that as you point out has cheap and durable solutions available, but the ability to be tailored to quick access to specific tools. A good example of this is the original creator of gridfinity made a workstation for his dremel and all of its bits that can be popped out to go work on a project and then popped right back into its home.
Though maybe 3D printing is already at the stage where you can get something custom produced for roughly the same price and quality.
