ah, ok. Thanks.
There was a post on Reddit (can't find it now) that claimed this map had been debunked but didn't link to a source. Anyone have a source on the map or a debunking?
The author should get over himself. Everything is not about the US, and that map is pure fear-mongering based on nothing resembling facts.
rads, milligrays, sieverts. how many different measures of radiation are there?
Does anyone have a good feel for how much risk we actually face in California from a total meltdown in Japan?
Thanks.

None, unless the radioactive slag is magically aerosolized and propelled in to the upper atmosphere, then carried swiftly across the Pacific.. A meltdown on its own will only cause local damage.
Take a look at our discussion last year of the concept of a banana equivalent dose: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1429524
The extent of milk contamination as a result of the Three Mile Island meltdown was that a glass of milk was 75 times less radioactive than the average banana.

yeah, some of the other comments indicate this map is bunk.
Thanks. I'll watch out for those bananas. :-)
