I'm curious, what exactly has broken in your workflow? The biggest issue I see is that you are unable to see build status on a commit (above the file list), but otherwise nothing really has changed too much in my opinion.
I rarely found the list of languages useful, and never really appreciated the description and the "stats" bumping down the list of files and readme, which are arguably much more important than the former. I think moving the secondary information to the side is a bit better use of space and visual hierarchy.
Given that he lives somewhere around Buffalo, NY, the cost of living is about twice as much[1] to maintain his standard of living in SV, so I would say he's doing pretty well, and he gets to do what he loves!
I can't remember the last time I've had a crash on Catalina. That being said, I did do a clean install when I upgraded out of fear of issues. Not sure if that had something to do with it.
It seems like this is something that Apple plans to relinquish control over time with. I hope that Apple finds the move to be a net positive for their ecosystem and decides to make more "defaults" changeable in the following releases.
What was stated seems pretty typical on small teams who manage critical systems. How are critical systems managed otherwise without having to 3x your team (assuming you want 24hr coverage with a 8hr workday)?
I have bi-weekly 30 minute 1:1s with my chapter lead and manager. I also have a 30 minute sync every week on each of my project(s) I'm leading and daily standups with my squad.
All in all, I'm probably spending anywhere from 2-5 hours per week on meetings, on average.
Our organization is pretty distributed across a variety of timezones, so the expectation of having face-to-face meetings is not always feasible. That means project spec reviews and other planning-related discussions are typically performed asynchronously over Confluence and Slack.
We do, in a team of 10. We have a very strict rule of being prepared before standup and going through the standup list quickly (< 1 min each). We also make sure to keep our list of tasks focused. Any sidebar discussions are taken until the ending of the meeting and all stakeholders who care can be part of it.
I think for us at least, just having the team all aligned on wanting to finish the meeting as fast as possible helps keep it running quickly and smoothly.
We had very expired dog food shipped to us from Amazon, and luckily Amazon was able to give us an instant refund, but that was enough to prevent us from buying foods and other perishables from them.
The iPhone 11 has the second generation FaceID sensors which is much faster and has lower error rates (to the point that it's not very noticeable anymore). Also, while you do "lose" the TouchID sensor, all FaceID-equipped iPhones have tap to wake and raise to wake functionality which is much more useful than being able to unlock my phone in my pocket, IMO.
I'm in a very similar situation right now: my daughter is 2.5 months old and my wife breastfeeds. And while the first month was rough for both of us; ironically, I feel like I've been sleeping better than I have in years during the last month. Probably because I know that I need to sleep to perform my best when I work so I can provide for my family.

Personally I think the term "tech company" is a little more of a blanket statement these days. Virtually every large organization has some "tech" aspect to them.
That's what I thought it was initially. I kind of forgot that Marzipan was included in Mojave and thought that this was some details about the _next_ incarnation of macOS.
Same here! I was OBSESSED with that game as a kid and took the manual with me to school every day for a couple of weeks. Developing custom maps actually got me into programming (setting up triggers, building maps, etc). I remember trying to storyboard my custom "campaign" during recess, and even went so far as recording voice prompts. So many memories!
I suppose I am a “pro” user and I like the touch bar. Do I love it? No, but I appreciate the customizability of it. This is something which is pretty rare in Apple’s ecosystem.
