I think there should be an UBER competitor ,that really helps cities build their own clone effectively.
If that's possible politically , it would be interesting : the cities would have regulatory power to win over UBER, this very critical business that's might just be the future of transport will be in public hands and hopefully will be guided to the good of the community, and drivers will be compensated fairly.

Great project. I do wonder , why are 100 people involved ? is it very complicated ? or just the fact they volunteer so they can't give their 100% attention to this?
YZF,why can't we start from an optimized FPGA - i.e. small memory blocks spread all around with massive bandwidth and low latency, and find a way to give decent enough access to the cpu to all that memory ?
And yes i know that the cpu will be the bottleneck, but it will be the bottleneck anyway.
Cover looks cool. Seems like the sort of thing amazon would like to launch next - with a quick launch button to it's flow app - as a way to spread the new firefly button("push to visual search") functionality faster.
Maybe the reason amazon prices that way, is that it's really expensive ?

Recently i've been interested in buying a noise cancelling headphones. There's the new bose quietcomfort 20i, which are claimed at least by some reviewers to almost cancel talking sound.
Assuming they work well, since they are controlled using software, it might open the way to a more "programmable" noise environment. For example you could set them to hear only the team members you want at any given time, thus giving you the best of both worlds.
Another thing that amazon can do with a phone is offer better service:
1. It could deploy it's mayday service , to get you a customer support rep on your mobile , which will help you install that TV. Rep would also have access to the phone's camera , so he could "see" the problem.
2. Amazon could develop an augmented reality app to make this process even more efficient and simple. Having 3D augmented reality might also make it simpler and more effective.
3. Combine 1+2 to gain better cost efficiencies in support.
If this succeed, amazon could implement another step in it's mission of being a complete business infrastructure solution.
Convey computer has something that looks like a useful FPGA development model. Basically you move critical sections of your code into the hardware using a hardware description language(with some help from the sdk), and when writing the software , you just call that section almost normally , and convey system manages this transfer of control between cpu and FPGA as needed.
Using that you create a unique "instruction set" that can generally fit a number of applications in the same area. With that programmers can program normally and still benefit from a decent speedup.
BTW it seems that convey has a deal with DELL, and also has developed a memcached acceleration kit. This stuff will probably be available only to big cloud providers, giving them another big advantage on the DIY guys.
