Wow, this is tectonic. I cannot wait to see how this redraws the competition map. There are dozens of major embedded semi vendors that license Arm IP. Nvidia could eradicate them trivially.
When did they stop? I just bought a new MacbookPro yesterday and there was nothing on it like that. Same for the iWatch I bought last year, and the iPhone 6 two years ago.
Oooh I can't wait: my first test for any Apple //e emulator is to see if it can run the Ultima IV and Wizardry I disk images that are floating around out there. If it can't, its a fail.
MSOffice ca. 1992 for Win3.111 was the high watermark. Been downhill ever since because basic features have been breaking (Excel 2016 sometimes forgets how to render axis fonts vertically... its 36+ years old!)
The author actually addresses this. Where do you disagree with his differentiation?

But in later layers, where more abstract features are generated, it is possible that a convolutional net learns to perform cross-correlation by convolution. It is imaginable that the bright pixels from the cross-correlation will be redirected to units which detect faces (the Google brain project has some units in its architecture which are dedicated to faces, cats etc.; maybe cross correlation plays a role here?)."
Blows my mind how many people let it go for days and days and then complain. Literally sub-20-seconds every morning to scoop into a small office garbage can (with a foot pedal) fitted with a plastic bag. The garbage can controls the smell, and every few days you toss the plastic bag in the garbage. Done and done.
USB is a differential signal, not a digital one (like a GPIO square wave), and once you lose the training the connection is lost: it's basically a replug, but you can't do it too quickly, so you need to build a circuit to switch it; or just have a smart hub that electrically switches it by maintaining all of the connections (phy links).

Depends on your physiology.
I've been sitting at a computer desk for close to 40 years. In my late 30's early 40's I started to suffer from several degenerated disks, and really, all my life I've had upper and lower back issues. In most of my jobs, I usually had those big puffy office chairs with a few knobs. Those kinda helped, but it wasn't until I switched to an Aeron 7 years ago and it was a game changer: the webbing is more comfortable than cheap foam cushions and the seat tilt adjust fits just right. It is is the most comfortable seat in my house (I can't slouch on couches anymore :( ... ).
So for me, yes. It made a huge difference. But if you've got a spine like a cat, probably no biggie.
(Although: I have the Aeron model with cables, which was redesigned from the original one with linkages, and the first one broke the day I received it: they couldn't walk me through the repair because the cables required a special tool so they delivered a new one.)
THANK YOU! I had no idea what was going on, or how to describe it. I wouldn't have thought of using the word "shaking". There was a time when every feature you needed was visible (yes, I had crazy FVWM bars for a while), but "discoverability" is becoming increasingly frustrating and annoying.
On the plus side, we don't really know what the limits of bad UX/UI patterns are until we cross that line. No one can deny that UX/UI patterns are in the Cambrian Explosion phase (for at least the past 15 years and going strong!), and it will take time for the more robust evolutionary designs to emerge.
Example: Consider the number of articles on HN devoted to seemingly minute detail, e.g.: whether or not an input element should use a placeholder that vanishes, one that shrinks into the upper left corner when the user starts to enter text or a label abve the input element. We're still figuring this out...
