Similarly, really pursuing shoplifters who are dealing in the hundreds of dollars of physical goods just isn't worth it -- because a seemingly high enough number of customers aren't malicious and do pay the bill with no hassle.
It must be so if a 1-5 cent margins can translate to enough sales to cover writing off the merchandise grifters want to get a hold of as well as torching the stuff that slips past QA.

From experience, this is not dissimilar to the internship-to-hire programs large firms like Qualcomm have used. At anywhere even 10% of that company's size, any individual can easily feel lost in a tidal wave -- triply so if your firm is facing any significant mountain of work prohibiting a good onboarding. Some employers may think this is even advantageous for them, but it can burnout the new hires fast.
The difference with this is the new cohort would have better cohesion from the get-go and might stand a greater chance of dealing with cultural fusion, imposter syndrome, "am I paid appropriately" syndrome, "why shouldn't I advocate a union" syndrome, etc

Pre-history humans would live close to their dogs. There likely wasn't a conscious "I'll give this to Fido, and if they're good in a bit, I'll eat the rest". Instead, a dog grabbed some scraps here or there, before or after the meal. If still hungry, the dog might wander around looking for more scraps and munch on what they find.
Eventually, the food you know you can eat runs out during a hard winter or other crisis, but you see Fido munching on some things like he always does. Maybe you'll munch on those things too. Congratulations, you've acquired enough calories to make it to the next genetic lottery!
Assuming the crisis is bad enough for you to experiment but not so bad for you to eat Fido, Fido survives until the next genetic lottery too! And so we have yet another co-evolutionary moment folded into our genomes.
With the benefit of history, we know Ohm was more right than wrong. So -- even if these critics where hitting on a very real inconsistency of Ohm's research in their pursuit of the virtue of peer review -- they fell victim to the arrogance of their ivory tower.
The pitch-perfect critique would've had to be "You've got some great work, but this bit here is hard to follow or outright inconsistent". Instead, they shouted him out of the profession because of the surety of their convictions.

It's depressing that gatekeeping is such a pervasive human tendency. I wish I could project myself back into the minds of these critics and giggle incessantly about how good ol' `V=IR` has been such a foundation to my world that Ohm's name is utterly inescapable...while these reviewers' dust has all but been lost to the wind.
There are usually "student council" programs that give a handful of elected students a regular audience with administrators, but most of these programs don't have any teeth.
Graduate student council programs in particular are often built as a compromise to prevent the students from forming an organization with greater efficacy.
Anecdotally, some PIs I know have had to directly contend with rising organization among students and handed out a raise and a bonus to their labs.
This looks really cool. I have a couple automated control programs that move little motors and such in the real world. These programs can make great use of `compare_and_set` and `swap`!

Because in addition to being like anything else, your data has a lifecycle in the network. Even if you as an initial provider of data lose interest in it, the network can hold onto it for their own purposes. The question of what data is important becomes decentralized and democratized. So long as at least 1 person says something is important and is willing to pay the resources to pin it, the data exists and can be utilized by any consumers.
