You know what's a real waste of energy?
The federal reserve increasing the money supply by 50% in the last half decade and inflated away the savings of hundreds of millions of people that spent tens of thousands of hours of their lives earning that money through blood, sweat and tears.
> Now I'm not trying to argue that bitcoin doesn't waste a lot of energy, it totally does.
Bitcoin doesn't waste energy, it uses energy to encode and secure the blockchain. The federal reserve (corrupt as it is) does not waste energy to print dollar bills, it is just part of the process of creation.
> For all those reasons, you need surveillance to catch criminals and restore trust even if 99% of the population are good people.
Hard disagree. Everyone knows who the bad apples are, but the policies are made so that they get a slap on the wrist and the get sent back out on the streets.
The exchanges and miners do have a large influence, but the node runners (the users) have a voice as well. The node runners can get together, and refuse to peopogate the blocks of of the miners/exchanges that are being bad actors (BIP 148 for example) and also (BIP 110) that's currently making the rounds.
If a large enough percentage of the node runners need refuses to propogate a block from a bad actor, then another miner can mine the same block and get the reward.
The same institutions that caused the 2008 crash, the same institutions that in the last 5 years have printed 50% more of the total US dollar supply, the institutions that keep the poorest and lowest classes perpetually poor and stuck by constantly inflating their savings away?
Yes, I think I will trust Bitcoin and my hardware wallet more.
It's a flex when you compare it to a government based currency where the bank or government can freeze your bank accounts or just empty it.
Plenty of stories from The USA and Canada from the last decade of that very thing being done.
Well you wouldn't use Bitcoin itself to exchange on, you'd use side layers like Lightning payments for the near instantaneous exchange which then gets aggregated into one of the upcoming blocks.
MasterCard was around in the 1950's, in 2026 they do not still use the same method of exchanging money as they did back then and have had to make big changes to their systems as time has gone on, Bitcoin does the same thing except it's not controlled by a banking cartel but by all it's userbase.
Classic case of "The company is paying me and I don't have any real work to do so let's create some so I don't actually have to do anything actually useful"
Very interesting!
I'm going to have to test if I can switch my Asahi ALARM M1 Macbook to official repos. I know when I use the AUR for packages, they typically have both x86 and aarch64 paclage instructions, maybe 10% or so don't and then I just clone the file and add it in manually.
I use GLM 5.2 through open router, and it's much much less expensive than Anthropic/GPT5.5.
I do app development with it and I spend maybe $0.20-$0.50 per task that I work on expanding the app where Claude sonnet will come out to $1-2 for the same work, and Claude Opus $5-10
I've been using chezmoi + Syncthing for about a year now. I don't want to have to manually git commit + push + pull everytime I change a config file, so I just sync the chezmoi directory between all my devices (around 8 total). I also have a dedicated VM that I use as a central Syncthing node, and on there I have a script that pushes the chezmoi directory to my Gitea instance on an hourly basis. I then ignore the git directory in Syncthing so only the VM has the git repo and the other devices don't waste space storing/syncing it.
Maybe once every 2-3 months I will need to go back and find a previous version of a file.
Rest in Peace.
I switched from OnePlus to Google Pixels once they started locking down their phones and making it harder to unlock the bootloader/restore the stock ROM. Sad to see them go, but not unexpected.
