Sorry. I'm a busy person, and I simply can no longer be bothered to learn (or to fully think through) the consequences of pressing any given "like," "unlike," "+1," or other button on the social medium du jour.
It was fun for a while, but the truth is, you need to hire an attorney (or be one) to keep track of where your Web interactions and expressed preferences are going to end up nowadays. The only safe thing to do is not participate.

Yes, it would be worth the comedy value to see a restaurant run this way. Somebody wants to make a lobster souffle with organic leeks and poison ivy, somebody else thinks they can make the perfect grilled cheese. The customer is left hungry, and wishing somebody in the kitchen would show some leadership.
I like the idea but it seems overly complicated. I think if I were to sign an agreement like this, I would simply insist that any patents I assign to the company be encumbered by a requirement to obtain permission from me before any attempt to enforce their claims.
All of this feel-good language about "defensive purposes" sounds vague and easy for lawyers to twist. Instead, if I'm going to design land mines for you, you have to give me a switch to disarm them. Problem? Hire somebody else.

That's what I don't understand about any of these services -- Google, Dropbox, and whoever else. If anything is "unlimited" these days, it's disk space. At this level of play 5 GB is about 25 cents worth of storage at most.
Paying for disk space in the cloud is no smarter than renting a cable box from Comcast or leasing your phone from AT&T. If Dropbox could just get past the notion that disk space is worth anything, their value proposition would become a lot more interesting.
If bandwidth is the real concern, which I imagine it is, then they need to find a way to charge for that instead.
It's always interesting to compare the crowds in the Sony and Apple stores at the local upscale shopping center. Sony tends to have a couple of bored salespeople standing around twiddling their thumbs. Meanwhile the volume of business at the Apple store seems to be limited primarily by the fire code.
Amazing how far you can go in business if you refrain from suing, hacking, and generally fucking over your own customers.

Didn't read the article, but do they count companies like Apple and Boeing as "US-based manufacturers?" Of course they are, in the sense that they are US-based corporations who manufacture and sell $X worth of goods per year... but crediting the US with their "manufacturing output" would be nothing more than brazen statistical dishonesty.
Also, if "manufacturing" is defined as the "act of final assembly," as it is under certain Commerce Department regulations and those of other government agencies, would Apple be able to meet that criterion by setting up a factory in California that did nothing but bolt together imported PC boards, cases, bezels, and LCD panels?
It is far from clear that the US really manufactures much of anything anymore, the way the term would have been defined in the post-WWII era. I've heard people only half-jokingly refer to McDonalds as a "manufacturer" of burgers.
It seems to me that pretty much every mass shooting (the one this week in Oakland, Congresswoman Giffords, Virginia Tech, Columbine, etc) have one thing in common: they were not perpetrated by people who would be characterized as "criminals" before the act, but by normal/unstable people who flipped and if they had not had easy access to guns the outcome would likely have been very different
