So you need a work visa to work in a foreign country, in other news the sky is blue.
All these immigration stories are non stories and it's getting annoying seeing it on HN. People get turned away from Canada for shit like this everyday, we had a TV show about it, yet it's not on HN.

I guess I'm trying to analyze why this is "newsworthy"... A band comes over to promote themselves, is surprised when they need a work visa? I mean it'd be newsworthy if they were "just visiting family"...
Let's say you are a rising band from America, invited to a prestigious music festival in the UK. You are definitely going to get a lot of exposure and publicity in your performance AT the festival.
Now, looking at your excellent performance, a few local bars invited you for a meet and greet, small performance, chilling with fans. Wouldn't this be great for the band? Exposure with international fans!! This is great for the bar too...raising their profile in their city.
Now, since you (the band) are a law abiding person, you decline any payment for those meet-and-greet events, because your work permit doesn't allow it. Awesome! Good for you!!
But because it is a bar with limited seating, they have cover charges for people coming in after 10 pm. Note that this money is not going to the band but it is going to the bar.
Should you (the band) be disallowed to enter the country and perform in the UK festival in the first place just because a fucking small-time bar charges entry fee?

This is both crazy and frightening. What bothers me the most is that all these situations seems to happen randomly, with no way of knowing in advance if you are going to pass the custom or held in custody. As a european I have an open question to everyone in the US: what the hell is happening over there? Is everyone going crazy? This is going well beyond the whole "trump situation", It feels americans are scared by anyone getting into the country. Such a shame.
